On Friday October 25th, Joanne and Don O’Sullivan will travel to Gorodishche Orphanage in the province of Brest in South West Belarus. They will be at the orphanage for 8 days, travelling with a small group of volunteers from the Burren Chernobyl Project.
Shannon Parish has a long and proud connection to the orphanage at Gorodishche; having “adopted” this as a millennium project in 2000. Since then, the people of Shannon (and environs) have volunteered and contributed in many capacities to improve the lives of the 200+ children and young adults that are residents of the orphanage. Joanne and Don will hold an afternoon fundraising event at their home in Coill Mhara on Sunday October 20th at 3PM, all are cordially invited (fancy dress is optional!).
All funds raised by Burren Chernobyl Project are delivered directly to those in greatest need in Belarus, much of the funds raised is spent in the local economy thereby bringing much needed business to the small villages, such as Gorodishche.
Thank you to all our Parishioners who have volunteered over the years and given of their time in helping and making life easier for these special little orphans. God bless you and your good work!
