Catholic Schools Week 2019

Sunday January 27th – Sunday February 3rd, 2019.catholic-schools-week The theme for Catholic Schools Week this year is: “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.”  Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK – SHANNON PARISH:

Saturday Jan 26th – Confirmation preparation Mass in SS John and Paul Church.

Tuesday Jan 29th – Grandparents Day in St Conaire’s School for Senior Infants.  Grandparents Day in SS John and Paul Church for St. Aidan’s School.

Wednesday Jan 30th – Grandparents Day in St Tola’s School.  Grandparents Day in Adoration Chapel for Gaelscoil Donncha Rua.

St. Conaire’s make an historical and spiritual visit to the patron saint of their school in Carrigerry.

Thursday Jan 31st – St Conaire’s Nature Walk.   St. Tola’s visit to the Shrines of Mary Immaculate Church.

Friday Feb 1st – Making of St Brigid’s Crosses in all schools.  Grandparents Day in St Senan’s School following the presentation of St. Brigid’s Crosses at 9.15am Mass.

Saturday Feb 2nd – Blessing of Throats at 6.30pm Mass in SS John and Paul Church.

Sunday Feb 3rd – Blessing of Throats at all Sunday Masses.

Donations of Candles for our Church’s: Saturday is Candlemas Day and it’s traditional to bless the candles used for the celebration of Masses.  You are welcome to donate candles for use at our parish Masses which can be left on the table at the altar.  In lieu of candles, donations for candles are welcome.

Blessing of Throats: Sunday is the Feast of St Blaise and the traditional day for blessing of throats.  Throats will be blessed at all our Sunday Masses including the Vigil Mass on Saturday at 6.30pm.  The Sisters of Mercy and our Sacristans will assist the priests in saying the prayer of blessing as your throat is blessed.  All are welcome.
